Etch A Sketch inventor dies

Andre Cassagnes passes away at the age of 86.

The inventor of popular drawing toy Etch A Sketch has died.

Andre Cassagnes passed away aged 86 on January 16th, the Ohio Art Company told BBC. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

The Ohio Art Company picked up the drawing tablet at the 1959 Nuremberg Toy Fair, which went on to become one of the top-selling toys in the US.

"Etch A Sketch has brought much success to the Ohio Art Company, and we will be eternally grateful to Andre for that," said the company's president Larry Killgallon.

"His invention brought joy to so many over such a long period of time."

The American Toy Industry Association named Etch A Sketch one of the most memorable toys of the 20th century.

Cassagnes also designed competition kites in the '80s in France.
