Report says internet shopping will grow 50 per cent in just four years time.
In 2016 23 per cent of UK purchases will be made online, according to a report from the Boston Research Group.
We currently spend £144.6 billion online per year but this figure looks set to rise to £218.3 billion in four years - an increase of 50 per cent.
The report, which examined the internet spending of the G20 nations, found that e-commerce accounted for 8.3 per cent of the UK’s GDP – double the average of other G20 nations (4.1 per cent).
That figure looks set to rise to 12.4 per cent in 2016.
The report also predicts there will be 3 billion internet users by then - almost half the world’s population.
If G20 e-commerce were a country, it would be the fifth
highest GDP in front of Germany.
