
The Golden Compass opened as the top box office draw this weekend, with the UK its biggest market.
It drew an estimated £8.8m ($18 million) over five days in the UK.
France, Germany and Russia each provided about $5 million. Results in Spain - an estimated $10 million from 536 screens - benefited from a national holiday.
In its first weekend in US the film took the top spot with $26.1 million in receipts, according to early estimates.
Enchanted, a Disney family comedy about a princess transported to modern Manhattan, garnered $10.7 million in its third week, bringing its total gross to $83.8 million so far.
