New products for younger and older players on the way.
Jakks Pacific is looking to revitalise the plug and play TV video games business by adding more boys and girls franchises to its portfolio.
The company has sold more than 50 million Plug It In & Play It TV games units worldwide since getting into the sector four years ago. Its core audience is based around such popular characters as SpongeBob Squarepants and Power Rangers, but now Jakks is hoping to expand into the older age groups with boy's franchises such as Marvel's Spider-Man and girl's properties like Disney's Hannah Montana and Cheetah Girls.
It is also targeting even older gamers with products based on such shows as Jeopardy, Deal or no Deal and Wheel of Fortune.
Jakks is also extending the plug and play concept beyond gaming with the EyeClops bionic eye toy, which is a handheld, super-powered magnifying glass that projects images onto a TV screen. EyeClops lets users view ordinary items at 200 times their regular size.
