Hornby has reported a 15 per cent increase in sales to £45m for the year to the end of March, with pre-tax profits up 16 per cent to £7.5m.

The year saw the company expand its network of concessions in toy shops and department stores to 121 outlets, with sales in concessions up by 34 per cent across the year, accounting for 15 per cent of total UK sales.

Chief executive, Frank Martin, (above) said: "Looking forward, we are confident that despite a slowdown in consumer spending, our core hobbyist market place will remain robust. We are developing the right product and we are nurturing the mix of distribution channels."
